14. Spiritual Logic

Becoming a new creation or a new life has a high standard of measurement. It is not merely doing spiritual activities, from a non Christian becoming a Christian, or from one who doesn’t go to church then now becoming a churchgoer, or from one who doesn’t participate in the church then now becoming church activists. Spiritual activity only provides religious attribute, whereas a new life in Christ is something that is especially different. In this case, we are warned not to misjudge ourselves. We should not feel about having a good relationship with God (Gk. dedikaimenos)1, while in fact we do not have.

One who truly has a new life in God will show his quality when he faces influences of the world.2 He will not be drifted to life pattern such as eating, drinking, and marrying and being married.3 He has construed in what Lord Jesus said: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.4 This contemplation was conferred by Paul in his testimony: “because we are not looking at what can be seen”5 Because what can be seen is temporary (moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal) however, what cannot be seen is eternal. It is a pity if we are shackled by what we can see. Contemplating of this brings a person to have a spiritual logic that is about a mindset that is based on the yet-to-come world.6

The feature of a true Christian is not on his religious life or on his physical ethics (in regard to this, we can meet non-Christians who also demonstrate good conducts). The distinction of believers is that they were born from above.7 The existence such as this state should be deeply contemplated. We will fail in life to be a spiritual child of God or to deign to God if we don’t realize that we have a different status from the children of the world. Our status as God’s children altogether has a special presence, which is being born from above. Every believer must realize who he is, that we have a status and different condition from those un-chosen.

A question we should think about is: Do we truly live in a new life? What are the characteristics of living a new life in Christ? The characteristics of a new life in Christ can be seen in 2 Corinthians 5:17. We should not feel about having a good relationship with God, while in fact we do not have. Just like in Luke 18:14, those who looked religious, represented by the Pharisees, they were not actually in proper relationship with God (Gk. dedikaimenos). This is the truth that should be unlocked honestly, which is our true condition before God.

Do not let it end up later that we are not recognized by God, although we are convinced so now. Let us pay attention to the previous periscope, a parable of the persistent widow and a judge that did not fear God.8 In the end of this parable, Lord Jesus said: “I tell you, he will give them justice speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”  Faith here is the state of life of God’s children that meets the standards.  To understand what God means, it should be seen in the previous chapter.9 In Luke 17, Lord Jesus mentioned about the situation of man at the end of time that is occupied with worldly interests. Basically, man’s situation nowadays does not prioritize God and His Kingdom. It is because they maintain their own kingdom.
